DOHH!

I like Carlos, but he is WAYYY overrated as strictly a player from a musical skills/execution-precision standpoint [yes, I KNOW that that's NOT what it's always all about!] - like BB King, Paige, & Clapton [altho i enjoy each of these guys; but i stand by my assertion, that it's just that the overwhelming majority of the listener population has them overrated playing wise, like they are some sort of "gods"].
I liked CS's "understudy" Neal Schon much better.

GREAT points in that article, tho.

But Carlos shouldn't get in an uproar about MTV...only because it's common general knowledge that MTV is sh** in its purest form, & all serious musicians know it. They have long been out of anything relating to "music" & are now in the BUSINESS of mass selling a sleazy, rebellious, lifestyle attitude to impressionable youth [& some impressionable so-called adults]...nothing to do with the real sh** - Coltrane's IMPRESSIONS. ;c)

What about BET? Surley THEY would stop much of the BS crap they air & show Elvin & Coltrane [I'm NOT talking about their jazz, motown, soul, & R&B stuff - just the sheist they show THE MOST of]...SURELY.

I think Carlos' intention was to show less of racism, & more of the fact that America [& much of the "free-world"] focus more on cash profits & big corporations at the expense of spirituality & sacred common human denominators. Treating music & most everything else as a sleazy throw-away "commodity." The hippie-music-movement was onto something, if they'd've just stayed away from all the mind/mood altering substances, they might've gotten somewhere...We musician's need to take the power back from these suits who could care less about the art form as they do buying that Lear jet & Ferrari, & having those 3 fake-meloned, collagen-lip enhanced, facially-reconstructed ho's on their Hot Rod.

Wishful Thinking, I know, when your whole culture has become revolved around an advertising promo numbers game - just look at how songs are marketed these days. Ever get a call for 1 of those 2 hr. "music marketing sessions," where they'll give you 25 to 50$ to sit through a tedious barrage of a lot of the same tired old sh** that you've already been burnt out on eons ago to air to a pre-polled audience? [You would still like some of it if they hadn't killed it twice.] It's strictly a numbers game, man. But that's "what it's all about;" what we're eventually forced into. Even the best, "purest," & "truest" of players. That's why I don't even turn on the radio anymore. With the technology today, one can make their own music library & support the artists of thrie choice...the hell with the mass-produced, pablum-puked, hook the minds of the youth BS. SO THERE. *phfffhtt!*

I see the beginning of the end of these stupid networks with the advent of the PC [we can only hope]. Like the gasoline/crude oil engine, these are dinosaurs that need to be hastened into extinction.

JUST MY 2.

Forgot this was originally about Peter Erskine's honorary speech for Elvin.

It's great to see that there is respect for culture in America.

Elvin will always be remembered as the gem of culture.

Zildjian + Peter Erskine = Classy

Thanks Skunkfunk for pointing this video out !
